A single LED die can only emit monochromatic light which could be one of the three primary colors — red, green and blue, known as RGB. Commonly 7 colors can be produced by controlling the switch of the channel for each primary color.

To produce more than 7 colors, each color channel should be able to change in brightness, not just switched on or off. A popular control method is PWMof which the cycle duty range determines the available brightness levels.

The more the levels are available, the more colors can be produced. Apart from the popularity in applications like outdoor decoration lighting in cities, stage lighting designs, home decoration lighting and LED display matrix, RGB color mixing technology can also be found recently in LCD back lighting and projectors. Diffused 5mm tri-color LED with separate red, green and blue LED chips inside a 5mm package is used as status indicator for example you can show wifi connectivity status.

It has 60 degree viewing angle. They are available in two types Common-Anode and Common-Cathode type which means you connect one pin to 5V or GND and then tie the other three legs to ground or 5V through a resistor. These surface-mount LEDs are an easy way to add a lot of colorful dots to your project.

They are half a centimeter on a side, which makes them small but not so small that they are difficult to hand solder. There are three LEDs inside, red green and blue and because they are so close together, they mix very nicely, without the need for a diffuser. The LED is bright mcd. You can control its full colors using PWM. Make connections of module to Arduino. These types of LED strips can control the entire strip at once with any microcontroller and three transistors or ULN It comes with option weatherproof and uncoated with white or black background color.

You can cut these LED strips pretty easily with wire cutters, there are cut-lines every 10cm 3 LEDs eachand trim off the weatherproof cover with a knife. They come in 5 meter reels with a connector on it. This type of LED Strips requires special type of driver. You can make it using Arduino or ESP Select the color and press set button. This file is little bit bigger due to javascript.

In this tutorial, we will install on firmware on a Wemos D1 Minibut the method also applies to all ESP NodeMCU attention, some cards need to be in bootload mode before you can flash the firmware.

Before you begin, verify that the version 2. Open the Terminal and run Python. If Python is installed, the shell must be started. Type exit to exit the shell. If Python is not installed on your machine, install it by going here. To install esptool. Launch PowerShell which allows you to run Unix commands. Go to the esptool installation directory, for example Documents and launch the installation of esptool and dependencies as on macOS or Linux.

You can now call esptool.

Now that everything is ready, we will be able to launch the installation. You can retrieve it directly from GitHub here or clone it using the command.

It will be necessary to adapt the command by passing the parameters that correspond to your card. It also works for the new generation ESP To do this, it will be necessary to go in the documentation of esptool.

To retrieve the characteristics of the card, run the command esptool. On Windows, everything works the same. Esptool being a Python script, the program is cross-platform. It will simply change the port of destination. The command allows to retrieve many more parameters than the command under Linux. Tags: Wemos. As this is my first foray into Linux I am probably making a stupid mistake but some underlying steps may be missing for Windows nuts like me.

I had successfully flashed 12 sonoffs with Tasmota and the 13th one failed just as my HD failed. I have this one sonoff and a Sonoff TH10 remaining to flash so any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Aircoookie's recommendation for running WLED. Current version: 3. Works very well with WLED. Recommended if your signal strength is too low with another board. Current version: 2. A bit bigger than the D1 and has pins pre-soldered. There are multiple versions with slight differences, not all are tested. OLED display X32 pixel, battery charger on board.

Almost the same functionality and price as the Wemos board. Plus it can be used in projects with external batteries. Runs on VDC. One button and one input.

D1 mini compatible layout. Works well, depending on the board you might have to press the "Boot" button while USB flashing Luminxa v2. Integrated level shifter, fuse for LED strip, resettable fuse for the development board, exposed I2C interface for display or sensors, relay for energy-saving and temperature sensor.

Purchasing through my Amazon links helps me keep the site up and running. Previously the roofline LEDs were run using a cheap wifi controller. Aircoookie did an amazing job on this project and it really just keeps getting better with each update. We decided on making a wreath to hang on the top of the garage.

The first thing I did was take the pigtail connector from the new string of WS LEDs and solder the wires to the correct pins. I have heard mixed opinions on doing this but you could also just use jumper wires.

Soldering allows me to throw it in the project box without worrying that wires could come loose and prevents me from getting the ladder out to fix it. I really recommend testing before you get everything installed on the wreath. I drilled a hole in the side of the project box and ran the wires through. This step went perfect so I unplugged the pigtail connector from the LEDs and handed it off to my wife. My wife wrapped the wreath as evenly as possible with the string of LEDs.

You can see in the picture below how she secured the project box to the back of the wreath on the metal frame with the florist wire. The color of the florist wire matches perfectly with the wreath and looks much better than zip ties. I already have power in my attic for my roofline lights. I ran the USB cable through the attic vent and plugged in to that outlet. This allowed me to have a really clean install with no wires showing.

They are set to turn on automatically at sunset and they turn off at sunrise. Hopefully this gave you some inspiration and an idea of just how easy it is to build something custom that looks really cool.

This post is just a quick rundown of how we built it. However, the fuller the branches are, the easier it will be to hide your wires. You can get bare wreaths for cheap at craft stores if you have any in your area. We used one full set of these. They all light up just fine. I would have probably just used zip ties or something ugly. These cables also carry data so they can be used to flash the ESP as well as power it.

This is enough to power our controller and out lights. USB Wall Charger 2. Try to get all of the lights out from behind the branches without sticking out too much. Go Do It!If you did not enter a static IP, the module will automatically obtain a dynamic IP from the router. You can check it in the router configuration or in the settings page, if the Access Point is still enabled. First, make sure you can reach the connected WiFi yourself with another device. See if you can connect to the Access Point, then go to 4.

Else, power-cycle the module manually. This only works with Apple devices out of the box. You can install Bonjour to make it work in Windows. For Android there is no convenient way to achieve it, though you can use apps like "Bonjour search" to find the IP. I highly recommend you install the WLED app, which makes automatic discovery easy! You are probably using too many sync interfaces. For optimal performance, use two devices and sync them via the UDP notifier. Maybe you are also using a very high amount of LEDs.

Please open an issue or message me on Discord to resolve your issue. Unfortunately it will also reset all your settings and presets. You can also try if using a different ESP resolves the issue. If you compiled with lwip version 2, try version 1. Check whether mDNS is on or off and toggle it: does it make a difference? Same for 'NTP'. Same for 'Sync Send'. Check your router: is your 2. If you have the possibility to try anotherplease try it. If the brightness slider in the UI is already at maximum, try checking the auto brightness limiter in the LED settings.

At the moment, there are a wide variety of development boards with the ESP chip that differ in the number of accessible GPIOs, size, form factor, etc…. The following table shows the correspondence between the labels on the silkscreen and the GPIO number as well as what pins are the best to use in your projects, and which ones you need to be cautious.

The pins highlighted in green are OK to use. The ones highlighted in yellow are OK to use, but you need to pay attention because they may have unexpected behavior mainly at boot. The pins highlighted in red are not recommended to use as inputs or outputs.

So, these pins are not recommended to use. The following list shows the state of the following pins on BOOT:. There are certain pins that output a 3. This may be problematic if you have relays or other peripherals connected to those GPIOs.

You can read this article that investigates the state and behavior of each GPIO on boot. Learn how to put the ESP into deep sleep mode:. A really comprehensive guide. I now have all of the insight to design my projects and possibly a commercial product correctly from scratch.
