I'm fresh of the beta and am really wondering when Samsung will allow Android 10 gestures on third party launchers like Action Launcher that natively support Android 10 gestures??
I have been in contact with support at Nova Launcher and they have no power to fix the issue whatsoever. This is definitely not a Google issue. Google has updated Android 10 gesture navigation to work with 3rd party launchers as of the Dec security patch. This is definitely a Samsung issue.
One that will hopefully be resolved in the very near future! He claims it is still a Google issue to fix, even with the December security patch. Here is a screenshot of the updated message from Nova:. He's saying that the gestures may not work correctly at times, while in Samsung devices they're completely disabled as of now. We have to wait for Samsung to allow gestures, as after the December security, it's up to the OEM for you to be able to enable them.
Maybe Nova Launcher said that, but action launcher, as of the December android update, has access to the new gesture controls. Samsung claims it has the new update, but on my s10e action launcher isn't allowed to use the gestures, so it's a samsung thing. Nova Launcher said that Google's implementation of gestures was crappy and that they now just allow other launchers to use the gestures.
Chris Lacy of Action Launcher said that it required some work. Imagine the Chrome team trying to implement the forward gesture. They just can't because of how the Android 10 gestures were implemented. I would also like to have this. Android has always been about flexibility and I really feel this is the one thing keeping my Galaxy phone from perfect.
The latest update I think it's the March security patch which just came in the last week still doesn't bring the possibility to use gesture navigations with 3rd party launchers.
Even though I read that they made some improvements to the gesture navigation. That's sad because I would really like to replace the horizontal app drawer with a useful vertical one. Sign In. Gesture navigation for 3rd party launchers in Galaxy S20 3rd-party Launcher Gesture Bug in Galaxy S20 When is support for android 10 navigation gestures coming to 3rd party launchers in Galaxy S10 Miss having the navbar toggle in quick settings! One vital part of Android 10's new navigation system is the "QuickStep" gesture.
Swipe up from the bottom of your screen, then pause. You'll see your recent apps along with a dock containing a handful of icons for quick access. This dock is provided by the phone's launcher, which means your home screen is now integrated into the multitasking UI. So what happens if you change your home screen app?
Sadly, Google didn't make an API for third-party home screen apps to inject themselves into the multitasking UI like the stock launcher can with its system privileges. So when you switch to a new home screen app like Nova Launcher or Action Launcherthe QuickStep gesture gets broken. To prevent this from happening, many Android 10 builds will simply disable gesture navigation when you set a third-party launcher as the default home app.
The option will be grayed out in Settings, too.
Try New Gesture Navigation on Any Launcher on Android 10
But there is way around this. With ADB, you can force the option to become available again so you can use gestures and a custom launcher at the same time.
You'll have to send an ADB command to do this. Now, extract the ZIP you just downloaded.
How to enable Android 10 gesture navigation on Nova launcher and other third-party launchers
Place the extracted folder on your desktop for quick access. Now, open the command prompt utility on your computer. If you're on Windows, press the Windows button on your keyboard, then type "cmd" and hit enter.
If you're on Linux or Mac, open "Terminal" from your Applications folder. Once in the command prompt, type "cd" without the quotesthen add a space, but don't hit enter yet. Instead, drag the platform-tools folder from Step 2 and drop it right on top of the command window. This will populate the full file path of the folder, at which point you can press enter.Damien Wilde.
With the release of Pixel 4, Google has now added support for gesture navigation when using third-party launchers. The new gesture navigation method brought in with Android 10 might cause some of you to wince but for those that like the new method, the lack of ability to use it with third-party launchers was obviously a major sore point.
Previously, this would throw up an error message and revert to the 2-button navigation method. Android 10 Beta 5 removed the ability for third-party launchers to access the full gesture navigation method. That said, it was possible to enable them using an ADB command but that would often be buggy or cause issues. Until then, if you have pre-ordered your Pixel 4, you can enjoy the new navigation method with your favorite third-party launcher.

On my N7plus updated to Android 10 also Action launcher on latest v However when I change yo default launcher all works well. Chris lacy developer of action launcher has written gesture navigation is supported in action launcher from v45 onwards. But on our n7plus its not working. I have written to him. Having the same issue. It seems Lacy has enabled it for Pixel devices since it said December patch which supports Pixel drop I am unable to find the quote- it is mentioned when we install Action launcher " What's new under version 45".
I am getting all the benefits of Gesture based navigation including from the edges. You can try the same. Except quick switching between apps by swiping the pill, which, according to me, is the BEST feature of the new gestures on android You'll be missing that one though.
Otherwise I would have switched to Nova. I think FNG with time will also issue an update for the same. Right now, it opens the immediate app opened prior to the one in use, so I rhink we might get there soon. The default size of icons is horrible in stock launcher, to day the least.
App drawer appears so cluttered. This was the main reason for me to stop using stock launcher. If you use 2-button navigation with nova u can still use quick switching by swiping the pill left or right. It looks like they remove the move right and hold to switch app from recent and swipe right for last app and added the quick switching from gesture navigation to the 2-button navigation. I'm using the 2-button navigation with nova and I can use the quick switching.
Things You can't do is the back gesture and no quick switching from home screen but works if u use the stock launcher. You need to be in an app to use quick switching.
Also the animation during quick switching is buggy. Android 10 broke many 3rd party apps. I got this information from Nova launcher team. There are some issues with Nova launcher as well. Then I have learnt that Android 10 has broken most of the 3rd party apps including Gcam.
I got to know that there is no fix as of now. We will have to wait for Android Nova launcher team has confirmed that, which means this is the same case for all 3rd party apps. With Android PieGoogle introduced the two-button navigation system.
To be absolutely frank, it was quite bad. In contrast, the full-screen navigation gestures from manufacturers like Samsung, OnePlus, Huawei, and other Chinese manufacturers were significantly better. In an attempt to rectify this issue, Google rolled out its own take on navigation gestures with Android However, this new navigation system had its own problems.
One of the most annoying things about the new navigation system was the lack of third-party launcher support. Now, with the latest release of Android 10, Google seems to have finally addressed that issue. Third-party launchers like Nova and Action can now use the native navigation gestures on the Pixel 4 series without any issues. As of now, the third-party launcher support seems to be a Pixel 4 exclusive feature.
However, we expect the feature to make its way to older devices with Android 10 soon. Source: Android Police.

And it is the last one that has managed to raise quite a few eyebrows.
Make no mistake, these gestures are a much-needed change from the regular 3-button navigations. But it suffers from one major drawback. After facing much flak over this decision, Google allowed the use of these gestures with custom launchers, but only on the Pixel series more importantly on Pixel 3 and 4.
On the other hand, Action Launcher has also managed to incorporate this gesture, but with a varying degree of success. The point is not everyone owns a Pixel device and neither does everyone use the Action Launcher.
I own a Motorola handset with Hyperion as the custom launcher. So this is where I got hold of a trick through which allows you to use the Android 10 gesture navigation on any custom launcher. Currently, if you try using the Android 10 Gesture navigation with any custom launcher, an error message will pop up. To overcome this, all you have to do is enter a few lines of ADB codes on any Android 10 device.
Moreover, this guide has been carried out on the Hyperion Launcher but should work on nearly all the popular custom launchers. With that said, here are the required instructions.
But before that, please go through the requirements section below. The Gesture Navigation will still be greyed out but will have been automatically selected see above image. You could now use these gesture navigations on any of your preferred custom launchers.
